Katie Baker and her son Hayden visited from Idaho. Katie and her family run a crop dusting business and she teaches in the local school system as well. She will be working with Rich Stowell and Linda on new STEM through the lens of aviation programs.

A great time was had by 25 members of the N85 Aerospace Club. They visited the CAE SimuFlite in Whippany, NJ for a special tour and flight time. The students flew a Falacon 7 X and a Gulfstream 550. A few even got into a helicopter. Glenn Stott helped us arrange the tour and provided hats, visors and flight bags for the all.

N85 is going to have its own Flight Simulator! The collaborative effort is with the N85 Aerospace Club and advisors, The Learn-Do-Fly people, John Weigele/Kean College, Don Gordon/N85 pilot, Todd Cooper/N85 CFI, Lafayette College Flying Club, Joe Borin Estate and Linda, Cork and Will. We are very excited about what this added teaching tool will be able to do for the flight school and with our educational outreach efforts.

read moreNovember 22, 2015, Trip to Lafayette College Engineering
Twenty-five N85 Aerospace Club members spent an enjoyable Sunday afternoon (2-5PM) in the Lafayette College Engineering Building. Barker Carlock a club content expert and Junior at Lafayette arranged for the outing. Along with visiting instructor, Ashley Cramer and several other Lafayette students the group was given tours, selected 3-D print coding and watched as their object was printed.

Tanya Brooks from Kingwood Township School and Linda Castner from N85 presented at the NJSBA conference in Atlantic City, NJ regarding the airports “Living Labs” program. They gave a formal workshop as well as occupied a display table to speak with the over 4,000 school board members, teachers and administrators regarding the series of STEM labs.

John Weigele takes a unique passenger up to enjoy the fall colors in his 1941 Cub. Alexandria Field has many interesting people who truly enjoy flying their planes. John’s passenger was not very good at giving a prop but he did promote many a smile as cameras were grabbed to capture the fun at every airport they visited.

Todd Cooper and Linda went to DC for the Capitol Makerspace Faire. They spent time discussing the Alexandria Field Aerospace Club and all of the items the club members have built in the past few years. They also made some great connections for future space funding and brought home lots of ideas for new projects.

Recently, Linda Castner was accredited as a Master Aviation Educator (MAE) by the Master Instructors LLC., the international accrediting authority for the Master Instructor designation as well as the FAA-approved “Master Instructor Program.” She is one of only twelve aviation educators world-wide to achieve the MAE credential. In December, Brian Prentice, long term N85 hangar rat reached his goal in the Naval Aviator Program, soloing the T6 Texan aircraft. He now moves on to the next step of flight training.

Chuck Burkhead, East Coast Sales Manager for Bendix King by Honeywell gave a presentation on the KSN 770/765 technology. Twelve attended and the flight school got a head start on the planned upgrades to the fleet. The two hour discussion was valuable and enjoyed by the pilots.

The FAA Safety Seminar on “Human Factors” was on Wednesday, November the 12th. There was a great turnout at the Alexandria First Presbyterian Church in Mt Pleasant – Just 5 minutes from N85 in the Community Room. There were over 60 people in attendance including several teenagers, currently interested in taking flight lessons. “Great job by Torkel Tellefsen CFI, Dr. John Fritz, and Linda Castner, AGI,” said Bill VanArtsdalen from the FAA Safety Team.

October 11, 2014, the Mid-Atlantic Ninety-Nines Sectional Meeting was held at Reading airport. Linda was the Keynote speaker: Getting More Women into Aviation. There were approximately 50 people in attendance. It was a pleasure to meet women dedicated to the value of flying.
